India is a country in South Asia. It is the Seventh-Largest country by area and second-largest by population and most populous democracy in the world.

Home to the Indus Valley Civilization and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four major world religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism originated there, while Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam arrived in the first millennium CE and shaped the region’s diverse culture.

India got its independence on August 15th, 1947. It was the day when the Indians got liberated from the rule of the British. The land area of India is about 1,147,949 square meters and the total area is about 1,269,338 square meters. India make up about one-third the area of the United States, the Republic of India occupies most of the subcontinent of India in southern Asia. It borders on China in the northeast. Other neighbors are Pakistan on the west, Nepal and Bhutan on the north, and Burma and Bangladesh on the east.

  • Shops are open every day of the week from 9:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m, Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays
  • Bazaars are a good place get cheap objects
  • Restaurants have flexible timings and are usually open late
  • Dhal (a type of lentil) and other vegetarian dishes, along with a wide variety of sweets- gulab jamuns, jalebi, kulfi- are some of the cuisines in India
  • Indian foodis different from rest of the world not only in taste but also in cooking methods. It reflects a perfect blend of various cultures and ages.
  • India is a shopper’s paradise. You’ll find everything from clothes to ceramics, and metal work to musical instruments.  The only problem is how to get all your purchases back home!

Travel & Transportation

  • Buses, coach, ferries, rail and plane are the easiest travel methods between the metropolitan city
  • Auto rickshaws, bicycle and taxis are easy modes of transport
